The first hat\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The first hat was made on an impulse.<\/i><\/p>
After having seen a photo of a hat made from strips of fabric in a Burda magazine, I decided to make a hat for myself.<\/i><\/p>
With no reference patterns or experience in making hats, it is worth noting that the photograph contained only the following caption: made with strips of fabric, glued onto the interlining\u2026 <\/i><\/p>
I went to the living room table to make cardboard patterns from cereal boxes. I took plates and pizza pans to get a suitable diameter and designed and sized flat shapes.<\/i><\/p>
To achieve the hat's truncated cone, I geometrically designed \"a section\" that would serve as a base for applying the fabric strips and would give the hat the height I wanted.<\/i><\/p>
I traced and cut strips of fabric from used clothing and placing them alongside each other with pins in concentric circles, obtaining the top and bottom of the hat. After being tacked and sewn, they were ready for the next phase: creating the volume. <\/i><\/p>
After assembling all the different parts, I completed my first hat in 2016.<\/i><\/p>

The name<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The name, Sol e Brumas (\u201cSun and Mists\u201d), resulted from the need to name that first hat, because, happy with the result, I decided to participate in the contest, \u201cDiscover Portuguese Sewing\u201d, with it. <\/i><\/p>
No, it didn't win the contest, but it did win a name for what would become a Marca A\u00e7ores (Azores Brand) in 2016 and a Registered Trademark in 2018.<\/i><\/p>
Made in the Azores, it was the Azorean climate which inspired the name: <\/i><\/p>
\u201cIt represents the unpredictable climate of the Azores, where the four seasons unfold in a single day, when the sun and mists combine in a profusion of affable colours\u201d. <\/i>S.B.<\/p>
And, despite not having been intentional, the fact is that <\/i>S<\/i><\/b>\u00f3nia <\/i>B<\/i><\/b>\u00e1rbara is <\/i>S<\/i><\/b>ol e <\/i>B<\/i><\/b>rumas and <\/i>S<\/i><\/b>ol e <\/i>B<\/i><\/b>rumas and <\/i>S<\/i><\/b>\u00f3nia <\/i>B<\/i><\/b>\u00e1rbara, but that name\u2019s origin was different.<\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Marca A\u00e7ores (Azores Brand)<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since 2016, the Marca A\u00e7ores seal has been affixed to each Sol e Brumas\u00ae product (crafts from artisans enrolled in the Centre for Design and Crafts of the Azores), as a simple and immediate recognition of the identity value of a regional product, with quality, reliability and of Azorean origin. Easily recognised and with an impact at national and international level, the products bearing the symbol, Marca A\u00e7ores \u2013 Certificado pela Natureza (\u201cAzores Brand \u2013 Certified by Nature\u201d) is associated with exceeding expectations and consumer satisfaction and has in view the promotion of the Region, domestically and abroad.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since 2015, having the Statute of Artisan and Craft Production Unit, a title called the \u201cartisan\u2019s charter\u201d, is the recognition by the Centre for Crafts and Design of the Azores of the artisan\u2019s contribution to regional arts and crafts, in terms of respect for the knowledge and techniques inherent to the activity and refined aesthetic sense and manual skill, as well as for the promotion and enrichment of the sector and revitalisation of the economy and employment at a local level.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Certification of the Collective Brand, Artesanato dos A\u00e7ores, in the area of hats<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In September 2022, Sol e Brumas obtained certification for the \u201cCollective Brand, Artesanato dos A\u00e7ores, in the area of hats, in accordance with Directive No. 111\/2021 of 14th October 2021, which regulates the collective brand certification, Artesanato dos A\u00e7ores for products traditionally manufactured in the Region.\u201d This distinction adds value\/recognition to artisanal work and links it to the cultural heritage of the Azores.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

HIST\u00d3RIA DA MARCA O primeiro chap\u00e9u O primeiro chap\u00e9u foi feito num impulso. Ap\u00f3s ter visto a fotografia de um chap\u00e9u feito com tiras de tecido numa revista da Burda, resolvi fazer um chap\u00e9u para mim. Sem moldes de refer\u00eancia nem experi\u00eancia em fazer chap\u00e9us, valeu-me a observa\u00e7\u00e3o da fotografia e a legenda que a acompanhava: feito com tiras de tecido, coladas em entretela\u2026 Fui para a mesa da sala fazer moldes com cart\u00e3o de caixas de cereais. Peguei em pratos e formas de pizza para conseguir um di\u00e2metro adequado e desenhei e dimensionei formas planas. Para conseguir o tronco de cone do chap\u00e9u desenhei geometricamente \u201cum gomo\u201d que serviria de base para a aplica\u00e7\u00e3o das tiras de tecido e daria a altura pretendida para o chap\u00e9u. Risquei e cortei tiras de tecido de roupa usada e justapondo-as com alfinetes, em c\u00edrculos conc\u00eantricos, obtive o topo e a base do chap\u00e9u. Que depois de alinhavados e costurados estavam prontos para a fase seguinte: fazer o volume. A assemblagem das diferentes partes permitiu-me concluir o primeiro chap\u00e9u em 2016. S.B. O nome O nome Sol e Brumas surgiu da obrigatoriedade de dar um nome ao primeiro chap\u00e9u, pois, feliz com o resultado, resolvi participar no concurso \u201cDescobrir a Costura Portuguesa\u201d com ele. N\u00e3o, n\u00e3o ganhou o concurso, mas ganhou um nome para o que se tornaria uma Marca A\u00e7ores em 2016 e Marca Registada em 2018. Feito nos A\u00e7ores, foi no clima a\u00e7oriano que o nome se inspirou: \u201cRepresenta o imprevis\u00edvel clima dos A\u00e7ores, onde as quatro esta\u00e7\u00f5es se desvendam num \u00fanico dia, quando o sol e as brumas se conjugam numa mescla af\u00e1vel de cores em profus\u00e3o\u201d. S.B. E, apesar de n\u00e3o ter sido intencional, facto \u00e9 que S\u00f3nia B\u00e1rbara \u00e9 Sol e Brumas e Sol e Brumas \u00e9 S\u00f3nia B\u00e1rbara, mas a origem do nome foi outra. Marca A\u00e7ores Desde 2016, o selo Marca A\u00e7ores, \u00e9 aposto em cada produto Sol e Brumas\u00ae (artesanato proveniente de artes\u00e3os inscritos no Centro de Design e Artesanato dos A\u00e7ores), como reconhecimento simples e imediato do valor identit\u00e1rio de um produto regional de qualidade, com confiabilidade e de origem a\u00e7oriana. Facilmente reconhecido e com impacto a n\u00edvel nacional e internacional o produto que ostenta o s\u00edmbolo \u201cMarca A\u00e7ores \u2013 Certificado pela Natureza\u201d \u00e9 associado \u00e0 supera\u00e7\u00e3o das expetativas e satisfa\u00e7\u00e3o do consumidor; e tem em vista a promo\u00e7\u00e3o interna e externa da Regi\u00e3o. Estatuto de Artes\u00e3o e da Unidade Produtiva Artesanal Desde 2015 que, ter o Estatuto de Artes\u00e3o e da Unidade Produtiva Artesanal, t\u00edtulo designado por \u201ccarta do artes\u00e3o\u201d, \u00e9 o reconhecimento por parte do Centro de Artesanato e Design dos A\u00e7ores do contributo da artes\u00e3 para as artes e of\u00edcios regionais no que diz respeito ao dom\u00ednio dos saberes e t\u00e9cnicas inerentes \u00e0 atividade e apurado sentido est\u00e9tico e per\u00edcia manual, assim como, para a promo\u00e7\u00e3o e dignifica\u00e7\u00e3o do setor e dinamiza\u00e7\u00e3o da economia e do emprego a n\u00edvel local.
